Age Is Only A Number. My Year In Pictures.

Recently I had coffee with a brilliant woman. We began to discuss our ages and what we have come to notice. She told me that in her thirties she came into herself and life became more authentic. I couldn’t agree more. I feel like my 20’s were about self discovery and making plenty of mistakes. In your 30’s you still make mistakes BUT realize that it is ok to mess up. You learn to care less about what people think and more about what makes you happy.

I’ve been feeling guilty about not writing content on my website in almost a year. All the social media experts recommend writing and putting something out into the universe even if it is not ready. And yet the only thing I’ve posted in 2017 is a few pictures documenting things that I’ve been enjoying. I’ve come to love yoga and hope to gain credentials to teach in 2018. I’ve focused more on plant-based nutrition-although I love a great piece of meat. My fiance and I purchased a home and have been developing our carpentry and remodeling skills (check out our FB and IG page “Renovate with Muscle” to view our journey). I visited Daytona Beach Florida during bike week and rode a motorcycle for the first time! Thank you David Garwood for the opportunity. And lastly, we added another fur baby to our family and now have Karma, Khloe, Kookie, and Kapone:) The Kardashians have nothing on us!

I will not feel bad for slacking off in my postings. This has been my year of reflection as I get ready to turn thirty-six this month . Sometimes the best thoughts are those that aren’t forced onto paper and instead germinate organically. I thought I would sum up my 35th year in pictures.

Top 10 Reasons Why Being a Risk Taker Worked For Me in 2016

I can’t believe tonight we will be toasting away 2016.  It’s crazy how many new ventures I’ve been able to experience in the last twelve months. I’ve decided my theme for the year is “be a risk taker”. Here are my reasons why.

1) I quit my good paying marketing job to open up a nutrition store with two business partners. We were lucky to have a great facility inside City Fitness gym in Lexington, NC.

2)  I learned how to make some bad ass smoothies and meet and help others in my local community.


3) The business had to close yet I added new skills set to my career portfolio. Smoothie barista, bar mom, protein queen were a few of my favorite nicknames:)

4) I joined a wonderful business coaching club for 6 months of tough curriculum. I paid for accountability. For more info on the coach and program visit:

5) I built my own website and actually added content without worrying what others thought. I learned transparency is a beautiful thing.

6) I exercised but didn’t commit myself to anything goal-oriented. Instead I blended workouts at CrossFit Hogtown with some fast-faced bodybuilding circuits.

7) After a couple of years of obstacles my business partner and I launched which is an online platform designed to encourage women to share their courageous moments online and through social media.


8) My fiance Kevin and I welcomed a 3rd puppy into our family. Kookie the Chihuahua along with Karma and Khloe.


9) I learned to make cauliflower pizza crust, cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles and actually love them.

10) I had a hair changing evolution. I went from short blond to adding 16 inch voluminous extensions to chopping it off and going RED. What fun I’ve had! Thank you to Chrissy at Jolie Cheveux of Lexington.

I’m a natural risk taker. We will always have questions and have hurdles to jump in order to move ahead. But as one my favorite entrepreneurs has said, “Everything is figureoutable” Marie Forleo.

My Favorite Protein Pancakes

I love protein pancakes anytime and anywhere. They fill me up, taste great and provide protein and fiber.

My motto is to keep the recipes simple so you can have the ingredients on hand at all times. Here are my favorite versions. Feel free to add or omit things you don’t like and use herbs/seasonings to enhance the flavor.


Coconut Joe (named this because most of these ingredients come from Trader Joe’s)

      • 1/4 Cup Coconut flour (one serving has 13 grams of fiber!)
      • 3/4 liquid egg whites
      • Cinnamon/nutmeg/natural sweetener if you like
      • Coconut oil cooking spray


Blend ingredients in a bowl (it will thicken). Heat a frying pan and use cooking spray or a bit of oil. Cook until edges get lightly brown. I top with sugar free syrup and more cinnamon.


Oatmeal Power Pancake 

      • 1/2 Cup Oatmeal
      • 1/2 Cup liquid egg whites
      • 1/2 scoop whey protein (chocolate tastes great)
      • Cocoa powder/cinnamon/sweetener
      • Almond butter/PB

Blend ingredients and cook on frying pan. I like to top with a tablespoon of PB to make it a complete meal. Remember you can adjust the amounts of ingredients to fit your macro goals.

Easy Fresh Summer Salads

I love vegetables and I love getting fresh produce during the hot Summer months. Sometimes I have a huge amount of produce to eat so I’ve come up with some easy salad combo’s. My lucky co-workers have been able to sample the fruits of my labor.

Try these simple combinations and let me know what you think.

Cucumber Salad with Pistachio Pesto

5-6 medium cucumbers diced into small pieces

Handful of fresh basil

1/2 Shelled Pistachios

1/2 Cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Juice of one lemon or lime

Salt and Pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients and coat evenly. Chill in fridge before eating.

Asian Tomato and Cucumber Salad with Walnuts

5-6 cucumbers diced into small pieces

4-5 tomatoes diced

1/4 Asian vinagrette I used:
Annies Homegrown Organic Shiitake & Sesame Vinaigrette, 8 Ounce

1/2 Cup chopped Walnuts

Salt and pepper to taste.

Toss all ingredients and serve.

Healthy Travel Essentials: The Game Changers


Carrying my 6 Pack Tote

Whether traveling for business or pleasure or just running around in your daily life there are some cool products that make sustaining a healthy lifestyle easier.

*These are products I recommend and swear by. I will be receiving a small commission from them

1) Cooler bag or tote

I have used several different products to carry food. If you are just beginning to pack food look for an easy to carry option that can hold at least two meals and snacks. Pharmacy’s and grocery stores usually carry cute options for under $20.

If you want a stylish option that can hold your meals, lap top and other items look at the
6 Pack Fitness cooler designs. I was lucky to have a friend who bought me this beautiful design that often gets mistaken for a regular purse. It holds 3-5 meals with ice packs conveniently built in along with my computer and gym products.

2) Protein Snacks

You must have a stash of healthy snacks while on the move. My favorite things to carry include: protein bars, nuts, beef jerky and fruit. I look for bars that have under 2 grams of sugar and at least 20 grams of protein. These are easy foods to keep on hand-just make sure you keep bars cool or they may melt.

3) Water bottle

I absolutely love my S’well water bottle. Yes, it is a little more expensive but the fact that I can keep my cold water COLD for 24 hours and hot beverages HOT for 12 hours is amazing! Bonus fact: the large bottle holds a full bottle of wine. 🙂
